More Stargate talent on Primeval

More details have been announced about the cast and crew of Primeval: New World. Stargate’s Amanda Tapping and Andy Mikita have now been attached to the project. Mikita has been a long-time producer for Stargate and Amanda Tapping played Dr. Samantha Carter on Stargate:SG-1 and has been director of the Vancouver-based series Sanctuary.

Also notable is the addition of Niall Matter, who has guest starred in Stargate: Atlantis, but is most remembered for his role as Zane Donovan in Eureka. The final season of that series will air in April.

Terra Nova’s Jay Ryan plays the Beast in Vancouver Beauty and the Beast Pilot

The CW’s Beauty and the Beast has found its beast in the form of Jay Ryan, who has previously played Curran, a deposed security guard on the Terra Nova series. We have also learned that this Beast is the product of a failed military experiment, which effectively has killed all the mystery of this show for me. Wasn’t a sense of mystery the whole appeal of the Beast? From the original Fairy Tale to the Disney movie, we’ve all wondered how this tortured creature got to be the way he is, and now that we can wonder no longer, it’s a good bet that the series won’t make it past the pilot stage.

Vancouver’s TARDIS Console Restored

Some of you may remember Doctor Who’s sole journey to Vancouver from the 1996 TV movie starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor. The TARDIS console from that very production remained in the prop house that built it for many years. Paul Salamoff, bought the console in 2006, but the years had not been kind. The time rotor was gone, as well as many of the switches and controls that the Doctor would fiddle with to travel through time and space. Paul enlisted the help of his friends Brian Uiga and Bob Mitsch to restore the TARDIS console. Now it is fully repaired with a custom sound board that makes that iconic TARDIS wooshing sound effect. The console was on display last month at Los Angeles’ Gallifrey One Network 23.

The “Scully Box” on the X-Files

A piece of Vancouver television history was uncovered last week. It’s photographic evidence of the “Scully Box” that 5’2″ Gillian Anderson used so that she could stay in frame with her co-star, David Duchovny, who was 10 inches taller. The carpeted aluminum plank, which Anderson started calling the “Gilly Box”, was so ingrained into her work on The X-files that she would sometimes forget she was on it and fall off during serious scenes. I’m about a foot taller than my significant other, so maybe I should get one these for my house.

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome Update

TVWise has uncovered some new details on the Battlestar Galactica prequel, Blood & Chrome. The Visual Effects for the 2 hour pilot were delivered last October, but Syfy is now mulling over whether to make the pilot into a full series. If the series is picked up, the network might hold onto it and release it as a first episode. One way or the other, this pilot will be released to viewers. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m hoping this turns into a series. Forget Star Trek or Stargate, we are living in a future where you can’t even see spaceships on television. Does that sound like a world you want to live in?

Once Upon a time Location Photos

More location photos from Once Upon a Time have surfaced over at Hollywood North on Location. The pics show Mayor Regina Mills (Lana Parrilla) at the door of her mansion squaring off with Sheriff Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) over some papers. This may be a scene from the show’s forthcoming Alice in Wonderland episode. Hopefully that’s when Emma will finally be able to trip up the Mayor’s quest to ruin everything and everyone in Storybrooke.

Fraser Valley Shout Out in “Once Upon a Time”

I’m sure nobody West of Langley is going to care, but during last week’s Once Upon a Time, a plot-critical piece of property was located at Old Yale Road, which actually exists, and there’s actually forest at that address. Neat, eh?
