More images from the new Percy Jackson movie have surfaced courtesy of Hollywood North on Location. The crew is shooting in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery with some temporary grass sod in place. I’m not sure which seen from the book they’re filming, but Brandon T Jackson is on hand, confirming he’s returning as Grover the Satyr. You can see the rest of the images here.

Set Photos from Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

Hollywood North On Location has taken some very exclusive photos from the set of the Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario return as Percy and Annabeth. Annabeth now looks like, well, Annabeth, so more points in favour of the new movie! Douglas Smith may look a little too pretty in these pictures to be playing Tyson, the seven-year-old cyclops, but a little CGI and acting magic will take care of that.

Bloody Jedi Witnesses!

Isn’t it always like this? There you are, soaring through the galaxy, minding your own business, when a couple of yutzes with robes and pamphlets barge their way through your turbolift talking about someone named Skywalker. Vancouver Sketch group Caution: May Contain Nuts has given us this brilliant depiction of religious strife in the far future. Have you found the Force in your life?

Man of Steel Superman Insignia Revealed

Superman: The Man of Steel’s facebook page updated last night with the first look at the Superman logo updated for the new movie. The symbol is recognizable, yet properly alien. The brushed steel look gives it an emotional edge that Superman Returns was lacking. However, does it turn into cellophane when you throw it at someone?

‘The Hunger Games’ Grosses $155M for Lion’s Gate

The movie version of Suzanne Collins’ novel The Hunger Games is now officially the 3rd highest grossing film opening of all time, behind Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2M) and The Dark Knight ($158.4M). It also beat out every opening for the Twilight films so far! The film is also the highest grossing film ever for the Vancouver-based Lion’s Gate Productions. Their last hit at this level was Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11, which grossed $119M over its entire theatre run. Even thought the film production was located in North Carolina, this can only mean good things for production here in Vancouver. If only we could get our tax situation settled…

Vancouver Film Industry Looks for Reclassification after HST demise

The Vancouver Film industry is campaigning be classified as manufacturing in order mitigate the effects of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) referendum. For those outside the province, the HST is a combination of the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST). This raised the sales tax from 12.5% and 13% and expanded it to cover a host of other products, like restaurant meals. This of course, caused mass outrage and a referendum which resulted in the demise of the HST and a very expensive journey back to the way things were.

What most people didn’t know about the HST was that it allowed businesses like the Film Industry to hang on to more of their money. This means that they have to go through all this rigamarole so all of our production doesn’t get shipped to Toronto. While its true no one lost an election by trying to get rid of taxes, if we want to keep things like our health care and public education, don’t we need to realize that you get what you pay for?

In response to a question about Jeff Bridges’ character. Adam Horowitz said, ” I would say the definition of life and death in the digital realm…” and Edward Kitsis finished with, “…will be explored in the next movie.” What can we say? The dude abides.

Katee Sachkoff in Riddick 3

The first photos of the new Chronicles of Riddick have surfaced on Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, including this one of Katee Sackhoff as “Dahl”, one of the Bounty Hunters after Riddick. Apparently, this was taken at 5:45am after a night of shooting, stunts, and wire-fu. I don’t think any of us could look half as good as this after an all-nighter like that!
