According to Apple Insider, Apple CEO Time Cook was recently seen visiting Valve’s headquarters. While Valve is developing apps for the Mac and iOS platforms, this visit might be the sign of something more, considering the murmurings about Valve’s own Hardware dreams. What joint venture could they be considering? Or could Valve be taken over by Apple’s $600 Billion Largesse?

Apple CEO Tim Cook spotted at video game designer Valve’s headquarters.

B.C. movie theatres Now Free to Booze Up

BC Movies Theatres like the Rio (pictured above) can now apply for liquor licenses so that they can sell beer and other spirits. This comes as a welcome change since BC is known for its archaic liquor laws. It’s all good and fine that the government wants to limit children and minors’ access to alcohol, but we too often forget that adults need places relax in ways that only adults can.

Supernatural May See 8th season

Supernatural may yet get a stay of execution on news that showrunner Sera Gamble may be leaving and former producer Jeremy Carver will be returning to the show. Carver had left Supernatural last year to produce Being Human for Syfy. This latest spate of activity in top management indicates that the CW is willing to spend more resources to keep one of it’s strongest ratings performers on the air.

Reboot Communications Refactors Vancouver Game Conventions

Reboot Communications has been hosting events  Vancouver International Games Summit  and Game Developer’s Conference since 2007, but this year, they have cancelled plans to hold more events in Vancouver. In two weeks they will be organizing the Canadian Video Game awards at Fan Expo Vancouver. Apparently they were offering free admission to unemployed game developers to boost their attendance numbers.

I can’t believe that events like this are having trouble when even small events like the Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo was breaking fire codes. Pro Conventions are great, but when you have that kind of energy coming from the fan community, is there no way you can harness that?

FUNimation Announces First Mobile App at Sakura-con

One of Funimation’s bigger announcements last weekend at Sakura-con was the introduction of their first mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The free version will allow fans to see clips and trailers from their favorite shows. The $9.99 paid version will feature full streaming episodes, albeit with commercials. For $7.95, you can get the Elite subscription without any commercial interruptions. It’s great to see more companies jumping on the streaming bandwagon as DVD sales continue to tank. Does anyone know if this will work on Android Media Player set top boxes?

Vancouver and Seattle rank #16 and #13 in World Startup Rankings

An Entrepreneurial thinktank called Startup Compass has ranked the 25 top startup cities in the world by over 22 factors measuring throughput, company success, mentorship, and market size. It was no surprise that Silicon Valley (San Francisco, Palo Alto, San Jose, Oakland) ranked #1 in almost every category. They do about 46% more mentorship than their nearest competitor. What really rustled my jimmies was who was beating us? Seriously? London’s in the top three? I was sure that they had Seattle and Vancouver beat in the Rain and sadness department, but not in startups. And Toronto is #4? My God, do our startups just sit around listening to goth music waiting for Microsoft to buy them out or something? This points to something severely lacking in our culture right now. Whether it’s lack of incentive, lack of confidence, or lack of initiative, the cities of Cascadia have to band together so we can climb that chart!

        1. Silicon Valley (San Francisco, Palo Alto, San Jose, Oakland)
        2. New York City
        3. London
